    MA Blog (Final Post!!)

    MA Blog (Final Post!!)

So this is it, my final MA Blog post. What an amazing couple of years this has been, and I can't believe it's nearly over. Reflecting on the work I have done over the two years, I can't believe how much my practice has changed. I started the MA wanting to question in depth what my practice is all about, why I work the way I do, and free myself out of a certain way of working I had found myself stuck in. I feel like I have done all these things and more. I am leaving the MA wi

So after a long time working out what it is i am actually trying so say in my work, and a huge change of direction in my practical work, i finally feel like i know what i am doing again. I am super excited about this new work, however it is right at the beginning so I'm keeping it secret for now. Heres a few pics of my studio space all flower-ed up, and watch this space for progress of the project! #Flowers #Experimentation

Its that time again where i have to start thinking about my work in the context of a gallery space. So there i was with piles of things around me, all this stuff i had made and i started to play... and heres some ideas i came up with for an installation piece. There were lots of things to consider, like just how many elements to include as it very quickly looked overcrowded and what i wanted the relationship between certain pieces to say about the work. Whether to include dra

Starting to bring elements together and think about how the 2D and 3D things i have been exploring could potentially be used together. I think the soft crochet and the line drawings work well together, in particular the messy line underneath the crochet form as it hints at the crochet unravelling into a layered overlapping mess. The metal and the drawings i feel works less well however the tiny maquette series of drawings i feel could be really interesting on a larger scale w

This is a redevelopment of the very basic pewter cast of rope i did last semester. I wanted to try and confuse the hard/soft contrast in my work in a different way, transforming something that was created soft into something that is hard. Aesthetically i feel these are quite interesting, however verging on slightly jewellery like which i feel is not something i am after. I do however like the scale and tactility of them, you can't help but pick them up and give them a feel. T

After reviewing how last year went i have decided to limit myself to select materials to avoid doing evverryyyttthhiinngg all at once. So i have decide to just use wax, metals and textiles... so here are some initial wax experiments to kick the second year off. Loads of different stuff tried out but i actually think that the ones without stuff embedded inside are more successful. I particularly like the rounded flesh forms with the drips, the hanging forms and the ones with i

Here i have returned to experimentation i did earlier this year with metal, lace and the rollers. I have included the impression element into the metal, confusing the hardness of the material. It is obviously hard as it is restricting the soft inner form, however it has the texture of fragile lace. The shapes that the soft plaster forms are being forced into are quite interesting in some cases, however in mot sure if they are a bit too clean and shiny looking for what i am tr

A few more digital stitch experiments. Exploring coloured threads on on stretch fabric, using the tension of the stitch to control the form the stretch fabric takes when filled with plaster... #Fossils #Soft #Hard #Experimentation #DigitalStitch
