Just a few of my favourite bits so far. I'm having bit of a re-think about my work and might change things up bit but i do think these elements have certain things about them that i might continue with. I really like the drawing and sculpture mix. The combination of controlled sculpted forms and loose expressive drawn lines works well together i think. The idea of elements balancing gives a sense of tension i am interested in. The combination of crochet and wax, especially wh

Again playing around with elements. Iv started to really like to the look of the crochet forms. The stretch t-shirt yarn works well for cylindrical forms and tubes, and the stretch allows for tension so objects can be inserted easily. The colours i feel are a bit too blocky though, maybe i could try dying it? The wax forms have become the focus again which i think work much better basic and just one colour of wax. The surface qualities of wax hint at the body without too much

Starting to think about how i can bring some of the elements together that i have been working on, and reintroduce the hard/soft contrast. I think as an initial idea these work well. The shiny hard pewter crochet both compliments and contrasts with the dull soft string crochet, and the mimicking of the lines in both materials come together nicely. However i think a lot more could be done with it, as these elements have been placed together rather than consideration being give

Slightly different bit of experimentation with wax. Here i have tried pouring the wax inside the crochet, to then unravel the thread around it, leaving its impression in the wax (fossilzed). Touching on the idea of doing and undoing (repetition). #Wax #Crochet #Hard #Soft #Undo

Crochet and pewter samples. Up until now i have felt there has been something missing in the pewter cast experiments i have been doing, an actually soft element. So after much trial and error i have managed to complete some samples that have crochet embedded within them. I do think that there is something interesting happening here however i am not sure how they would develop into anything more that just tiny artefacts. I will have a think about how to continue with these and

This is a redevelopment of the very basic pewter cast of rope i did last semester. I wanted to try and confuse the hard/soft contrast in my work in a different way, transforming something that was created soft into something that is hard. Aesthetically i feel these are quite interesting, however verging on slightly jewellery like which i feel is not something i am after. I do however like the scale and tactility of them, you can't help but pick them up and give them a feel. T

Pewter... the hard stuff! I loved this process...the fact that though it is a very similar process to the ceramics slip casting, there is definitely no hint of the artists hand in this. with ceramics you get to feel your way around the work, manipulate parts with your fingers... this process you have to keep your fingers away at all costs. Both processes use heat.. but at different points. Just an interesting thought to me. The finished object, though rough, has a real indust

Just a quick note on something interesting that has happened with this piece, that i would like to develop further. This experiment was made using two slip casts. At the soft stage they placed on top of each other and allowed to sag into each other, almost as if they are supporting each others weight. When dry the pieces where fully rounded with no cracks... however when removed from the kiln they had both cracked in exactly the same spot. As if the pressure of their 'Bodies'
