MA Hard/Soft Experimentation (2018)

These experiments with softness were working towards my MA interim exhibition.

Soft materials in sculpture unavoidably evoke the human. In my work, unusual combinations of materials result in bodily binary outcomes. Hard plaster forms appear tactile, and delicately feminine surfaces are distorted by stereotypically masculine metal elements; yet the contrasting materials appear to be in an interdependent relationship. Traditional feminine textiles techniques are laboriously used to create fabric moulds, and then subsequently destroyed in casting process, leaving only their trace on the skin of the sculptures.
