MA Blog (August)

Wax is yet another material that is hard to the touch yet you know you have to handle it with care because of its fragility... I like this quality in a material.

Again it links subtly to the 'women handcrafts' as wax was one of the first materials women where 'allowed' to sculpt with because it was soft enough for their delicate hands. I particularly like that wax when set can be heated and reworked by melting it gently and allowing it to do its own thing. Allowing it to bend how it wants to bend, enhances the organic bodily appearance of the forms.

I'm really enjoying the new colour palette that has seemed to appear organically in my work. Its still very bodily, yet subtle and soft.. rather than aggressive like my beloved red!
